I got to drive one once in Chicago. This is not the car I would choose to pull a trailer. It could hardly pull itself with its 350 cc motor, but it was fun so long as traffic could be avoided.
It reminds me of the final sentence of Charles Dickens “A Tale of Two Cities” –
It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before.”
I can see the little bearded King (he is a king, isn’t he?) thinking this after making his peace with not being sure whether or not he wanted the job in the first place.
The fact that he (or ‘it’) is on the rear bumper of an Isetta….make it even better, if possible :-)
I guess every German child (at least of my generation ;-)) had a Kasperl, a King, a Grandmother, a Policeman, a Gretel and a Seppel at least. And the King looked exactly like this one (I guess in those old days, ahemmm, there was only one manufacturer ;-)).
Grin – these Isettas were carried on trailers up there since they won’t manage the steep mountain passes by themselves without attracting the wrath of every other motorist ;-)
Thank you for the laugh.
You’re welcome!!
BMW Isetta, btw.

Damn. What a great image.

This King is a traditional character in the Kasperltheater:

My guess is that it’s his first day on the job, thus the delightful smirk. Once he tows a few trailers we’ll see what he thinks.
