While it is too far away to tell for sure, I think that airplane is a Piper Cherokee flying in that dramatic sky. The pilot just hopes there is nobody out there.
The Piper Cherokee and Mooney look much alike except for the tail, but it is too far away to see. How fine you had some closer pictures so you could identify the plane. The Mooney is a wonderful plane I would love to own.
Mooney only offered this aircraft for two years in the late 1980s because of an economic recession. Few people had the money to buy one, so Mooney only built 77 of these fine planes. Those who own them today are very lucky. BTW, the number 205 refers to the top speed of the plane, cruise at 75% power is about 140+ NM per hour.
Beautiful photograph, Martina. I like the dramatic sky you’ve captured.
Thank you!
We had lot’s of dramatic sky around here in the last months (usually it’s simply gray gray gray).
In the background you can see Mainz Finthen Airport – just a stone’s throw from where we live.

Of course after your comment I had to look up the registratrion nummer (I took some closer photos) ;-). Says it’s a Mooney M.20-J 205

I didn’t know Mooney at all before – things you learn … . Thank you!
