      addendum: in German there would be a comma after “thumb” – no idea if that’s true for English, too. But I guess one tends to read a foreign language with one’s own grammar in mind …

  1. As came up on a quiz show last month, the answer to “What is the most widely spoken Germanic language?” is English. Here in America we speak both badly:-))
