I loved the mysterious darkness of the trees
I can remember being flooded with happiness once
There’s something I want to be sure to show you
She has stared out of windows more
I suppose you’re quite a stranger to farm life
Or maybe I was seeing a little too clearly
It seemed as if the whole of the world was slowly being stripped of innocence
The whole place had the fragrance of oolong
Crouching next to a huge pile of dung my mind froze up
I’m just showing you what I did so I don’t have to answer questions later
It felt like his eyes were looking right at her
It was hot, with a gritty desert wind hard to breathe in
Maybe they can give him something to settle him down
Shut up, and from here on out, stop marching on!
My first mistake was waiting for a lift
I took them along a bumpy track
If you surrendered to the air, you could ride it
You think I don’t know how to walk when I want to walk?
At home, the man sits with his eyes glued to the front door
Dead of winter, icy roads, wind blowing sideways across the empty cornfields
