I tried not to show what I was thinking.
I gave him a hard look, and he looked back.
He didn’t belong and I didn’t know why.
My head had been bothering me lately.
People were a mystery, I decided.
I began to understand that people disappeared and changed.
I had to do what everybody else did.
She had no idea how far away it might be.
I don’t remember. It was forever ago.
I don’t think I’m who you’re thinking of.
It’s just, I think I know you.
It was too late, wasn’t it?
When she was younger she could be alone for weeks.
He would never be able to find it again.
He needed to be unbound.
His new life was about to begin.
Eventually, he would have to leave.
He had never felt worse.
Oh, it’s nothing.
He wanted to walk like that for hours.
I’m so glad for you.
It had always been there.
He wanted to be a poet but suffered from a day job.
And that force would get heavier still.
How tightly joined to the earth it was.
How solid it all was, this other existence.
I thought you were going to take it easy for a few days.
Nice talking to you.
How can you just leave me standing? Alone in a world so cold?
Will you listen to me? Will you listen to me?
Let’s see if we can make a bit of sense of this.
Nobody lives there now.
Just at peace with things.
It just seemed like the thing to do.
It doesn’t have to make sense.
You don’t have to understand it.
The sun is shining and the sky is an empty, mindless blue.
Do you wish me to come along?
You never know what’s going to happen.
I like oblivion. I seek after it.
Your soul is at stake.
If it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter.
Every day could pass like this, quite easily.
Planes flew overhead in all directions.
He was both kind and beautiful, and they loved him.
We raise our glasses. Cheers!
I was onto something important.
I say I had no plan, but I knew what I would do next.
You won’t believe this, but I had no plan. I just wanted to see.
The huge, dustless house was silent.
