Once again you have a perfect match of quote and photo. The door is a real beauty and leads to a Masonic Lodge, note the caliper symbol between the doors. Since the Masons are a secret society, there are, of course, many questions. :-)
Unlike to the Anglo-Saxon world masonry is rare in Germany (that’s my feeling, I don’t have any statistics) – I guess that’s what really caught my eye – it’s quite exotic to me – besides this being a wonderful door, indeed.Very neat, well kempt.
Now let me see if I can find some data … http://www.aboutfreemasons.com/Freemasons_in_Statistics
Agree with completely about the door. It is completely appropriate for a Masonic Lodge. Of course questions remain. Don’t know much about the organization myself, but I’ve always thought they are mostly a civic group who helped their communities and each other.

That’s my impression, too. My English uncle is a mason but he never ever talks about it. And I don’t ask.
