“I’m free”, he said aloud again, just to hear it.
He didn’t know how to think anymore.
I probably shouldn’t have told you that.
There’s nothing the matter.
Everything’s fine.
Maybe he just has nothing to say.
Don’t look at me.
You tried to be smart, didn’t you?
Nobody said anything.
What are we to believe?
Maybe the absence allowed for a mythology.
Is that happiness? It’s a version.
He did not mind dancing alone.
Night, too, has its advantages.
Her eyes, opaquely glinting in the moonlight.
The language that she spoke was no longer spoken anywhere on earth.
From inside the box, she screams.
A grown-up approach to happiness.
Funny how things turn out.
It takes your system a while to return to normal.
Or maybe there was nothing.
But most days she stared out the window all sad.
Are we escaping?
Then he closed the window and disappeared.
Her silent laughter made the whole window shake.
It was all very realistic.
It’s just my job.
Had he ever felt that way, too?
I guess I’m a little more tired than I thought I was.
Everyone is everywhere.
What’s the thinking there?
Never mind.
There was one more thing.
You’re going to turn out better than me.
Nothing to see here.
Knowing what was coming without really knowing what was coming.
Only an idiot would try to write about it.
See you tomorrow.
If you believe that, what else do you believe?
Are you still here?
Visiting hours are noon to eight.
Just come and visit me.
Something was wrong with it, I thought.
I have perfect vision now.
Let me buy you a drink.
Love, where are you?
I find myself calmly standing sentry there.
I refuse to live like a poltroon.
I’m free?
They’re ready to walk away.
