The dog didn’t look that unhappy. This was at the Apt market – the small guy might have been trampled under the visitors’ feet otherwise?
However – something I would never do to an animal – carrying like that.
It took me awhile to realize that what I was looking at was something I couldn’t see – the same thing the man is turning to look at – and possibly, no, probably I think, the same thing the woman who is shading her eyes is also looking at –
– the thing to the man’s left – just outside of the frame.
I can only wonder what it might be.
The more I wonder….the more the text (about the possibility of losing one’s mind) seems relevant.

That’s an odd way for a dog to travel. It is enough to drive a dog insane. Insanity and creativity may be closely linked.
