This must be a Roseler family crest. There was a well known Bauhaus photographer by the name of Clemens Roseler, and a contemporary photographers in NYC named Martha Rosler, so there are photographic connections here. Interesting.
Interesting hints you gave me – I didn’t know about Martha. Thank you. I fear you can not ignore the German umlaut, though. It’s Rösler – and the whole thing is a 1545 inn sign.
Thank you – yes, without them there would be too much negative space I suppose. Made the picture for me, too – and additonally it gives some historical context. It’s a Treppengiebel, though, not chimneys. Hm, “stepped gable”?

The three chimneys, wonderful blurry, make the picture! Works very well for me.
