According to guys who run saw mills, there is quite a bit of stuff buried in trees. They hate finding metal objects as they dull the saws. And yes, I also can see a nose and mouth in that tree. That’s why I thought the tree was eating the sign. A fine image.

Someone might help that tree by providing it with eyes, but then trees rarely have to see where they are going. They just follow the light, like photographers in a way.
I can see the problem in your photo. That tree is eating that sign. Takes trees a long time to consume things, but they will eventually get it done.
That makes me wonder how many things are burrowed into very old trees …
