You’re all dressed up.
What are you doing?
There are a few other people like me out there.
Perhaps there was hope still.
They thought I was the nanny.
Dots and squiggly lines, he said.
I think you better let me call you a cab.
I’m not gonna worry about it.
No one’s around.
This could look stunning, actually.
Humanity was making its way toward us.
She waited to see what words he chose to use.
He was deliberately not thinking something.
He had been a boy of his time and place.
How did it happen?
That is why I am here.
I have something to show you.
Be silent. Let me think
These occasions stick and hold.
There was something satisfying and hard-won about this.
All I felt was a shattered space.
Happy in this moment, just as it was.
Who was happy right now?
Sometimes it was so frustrating!
Those were the days!
It was what it was.
After that it got blurry.
All wildness ceased.
So what? What was the big deal?
Look at it now!
Then everything became terrifically clear.
For a moment he was confused.
He had grown bored and lonely.
I do not question it.
The opportunities for error multiplied.
He took out a sheet of white paper and a pen.
He hadn’t slept at all
It’s just a thing I had in my head
The sound was as clear as speech in a room
They sit quietly for a long time
He wakes in the middle of the night gasping for air
He sits very still
Time really does slow down
I told you, I feel fine
I’ll call some doctors in the morning
I sometimes wonder
It’ll be a long day for you
Builders, dreamers, and people of imagination enjoyed such places; others saw nothing
He obviously ran this place
Human nature being what it was
