The seconds pass.
I think the cat was sad.
What have I done now?
The night was very big out there.
The loss of that place made him unsure of this one.
It felt like the end of things.
A chill comes over you.
There are no more strangers.
You know, I could just take your picture.
Remember, nothing genuine ever comes easily.
Nobody takes care of me.
It wouldn’t have been the same without you.
Maybe there was still hope for them, after all.

I make things up. I do.
I didn’t want to wind up like that, that’s for sure.

Often they spoke in low voices.
It’s not yet dusk.

I felt my heart thundering.
You find me here because nothing keeps me elsewhere.
So what’s the appeal?
One didn’t merely wander in.
But do you mind if I ask a quick question?
It wasn’t easy to see what separated one Martian from another.
You could just go inside.
For a moment.
Humanity was making its way toward us.
I felt that I understood something.
I understand everyone. Or, rather, I used to.
I know from experience not to give advice.
It really was better to be free.
They were waving and smiling.
How pretentious of me!
You look the same as ever.
